Appointments

Lord Armstrong and Lord Beckett have been appointed to the Second Division of the Court of Session effective from 23 June 2023 and 1 July 2023 respectively. Lord Armstrong was appointed a judge of the Supreme Courts in February 2013.

Shoosmiths has been appointed to Avant Homes’ Scottish legal panel. The appointment sees the firm extend its relationship with the UK housebuilder after securing a place on Avant’s England and Wales legal panel in 2021.

Dame Sue Carr is to take up the role of lord chief justice of England and Wales in October, becoming the first woman to hold the top judicial post. Lord Burnett of Maldon, who has held the role since 2017, is retiring at the end of September.

Fiona Killen has joined Harper Macleod as a partner. She joins the firm with a focus on public and regulatory law, data protection, freedom of information, human rights, corporate governance and parliamentary affairs.

Weightmans has welcomed two new arrivals to its employment, immigration and pensions (EPI) team in Glasgow. Paman Singh and Ben Brown join the firm as principal associate and solicitor respectively. Both join Weightmans from WorkNest.

Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP (WJM) has announced a string of promotions across its offices. Five staff members have been promoted across the firm’s offices in Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
