Employment Lawyer (Senior Solicitor/Associate)

Flexible on Location

Thorntons has one of the leading Employment law teams in Scotland. We are ranked in Chambers and our progressive team includes four Accredited specialists. We provide full service employment law support to a diverse and growing client base with notable expertise in the education sector. We have offices across Scotland and are flexible on location for this role. Our agile working approach allows for a blend of working at home as well as in the office.

Where every day is different

We act for both employees and employers in the full range of contentious and non-contentious matters and pride ourselves understanding each client’s needs and providing incisive solutions. You will be working with a broad range of clients including SMEs, Universities, Colleges, family businesses, large corporate bodies, charities and start-ups providing a combination of contentious and non-contentious advice. This is a varied role which will give you exposure to a range work including Discrimination, Unfair Dismissal, Bullying and Harassment, Whistleblowing, TUPE, Employment Tribunals, Redundancies, Collective Bargaining and Collective Negotiation, International Secondments, Gender Pay Gap reporting, Executive appointments and strategic planning. This is a very supportive team where you will be encouraged to build expertise in areas of interest and fully supported to achieve your career goals.

About you

You will have a solid bank of Employment law experience, with the technical expertise to manage a complex and busy caseload. You will ideally have previous experience of corporate transactions and TUPE. You should be commercially aware, committed to building and sustaining strong client relationships and be able to work confidently in a fast paced, client facing environment. For us, it is also important that you are motivated and driven by understanding our clients and passionate about helping them achieving a successful outcome.
About us

Thorntons has grown significantly in recent years following a number of strategic mergers and investments into one of Scotland’s top 5 independent law firms. Throughout its successful expansion, our focus has remained the same, to provide the highest quality legal advice and service, when and where clients need it.

We are progressive and ambitious. While we expect high standards from our people, we recognise and value the contribution they make to our business – and our success. We see the whole person, not just the person in the workplace – and we’re aware that our people have busy lives outside work. Our advanced technology allows many of our people to benefit from agile working. It’s simple common sense: do our best for our people and they’ll do their best for us.

At Thorntons we pride ourselves on doing what is right, and as two time winners of the Scottish Business Insider Employer of the Year Awards you can see why our People choose, and enjoy a career with Thorntons.
