Phoenix Strategic Partnership - It is the intention, assuming shareholder and regulatory approval, that this role will transfer to the Phoenix Group in circa Q3 of 2018.


We’re looking for an experienced pensions lawyer to join our pensions product team. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, Pensions you will advise on a wide and varied range of matters affecting our contract and trust based pensions propositions, from product creation to the end of the pensions contract and decumulation options.

You will have a thorough knowledge of consumer contract issues, excellent plain English drafting skills and will be familiar with pensions product literature, SIPPs in particular.

You will have a working knowledge of the various pension changes which took effect throughout 2014/5 as well as IDD, PRIIPs and Transaction Costs Disclosure. Ideally you will also have experience the issues concerning pensions ‘liberation’ and the FSCS rules.

Although not essential, you should have experience of transfer propositions including pre-funding and re-registration of funds including issues arising through external fund manager and reassurance agreements.

You will be responsible for addressing the commercial and strategic needs of the business while protecting the interests of the Standard Life Group. You will need to be flexible and adaptable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. In addition to technical excellence, you will need influencing skills, commercial judgement and a pro-active approach to interact with colleagues across the Group at a variety of levels.

To be successful in the role you will need to be comfortable challenging and influencing stakeholders and be able to deal with complex projects in terms of scale, scope and specialism.
