We are looking for a Principal Solicitor (Licensing and Compliance) to lead and manage the provision of high-quality legal support on licensing, compliance and regulatory matters. In this key role, the successful candidate will:

  • Provide expert legal advice on licensing and compliance matters.
  • Support decision making processes and protect the Council from legal challenges.
  • Lead and develop a team of legal professionals.
  • Contribute to policy development and ensure statutory duties are discharged effectively.

Candidates will be a qualified solicitor with a current unrestricted practising certificate and will have strong leadership and management skills, recent experience in licensing and compliance law, excellent communication, advocacy and negotiation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The role forms part of the Litigation section which provides legal advice and support to officers of the Council, all Committees and associated organisations in the performance of their functions and service delivery. As part of the Legal and Democratic Service management team, you will be involved in areas of the Council’s business, helping to deliver the service plan and manage service-level risks.
