Solicitor (NQ – 3 years’ PQE)

We are looking to recruit a qualified solicitor to join our Child Protection practice area unit.

This role would be suitable for an NQ – 3 years’ PQE, though all applicants will be considered. Experience in Child Law or Family Law is preferable, although not essential as bespoke training will be provided to ensure the successful candidate is fully supported in the role.

The position is full time. Our offices are based in Glasgow city centre. We support a hybrid of office-based and remote working, and flexible arrangements may be available.

Essential skills

Any applicant should meet the following criteria:

  • Some experience of litigation. We deal with both child law and family cases, and experience of one or both is preferred. Bespoke training will be available.
  • Strong IT skills.  We are a paperless firm.  Solicitors should be proficient in MS Office and have experience of case management systems. Bespoke training will be available.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.  We work collaboratively within practice area units.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent client care.  Our clients are entitled to expect the highest standards of service.

The work of the practice unit

The Child Protection practice area unit deals with cases involving the Children’s Hearing process and associated court proceedings (for example, grounds of referral proceedings, permanence and adoption proceedings) as well as family cases (namely, actions for residence, contact and parental rights and responsibilities). The associated court proceedings are primarily at sheriff court level, but we also act in cases at the Sheriff Appeal Court and the Court of Session.

The practice unit routinely represents children, parents, extended family and foster carers at all stages of the process. The practice unit’s work has been at the forefront of this area of law for years. We actively encourage and support our solicitors to undergo ongoing training and professional development. This is a great opportunity to work alongside senior solicitors in a progressive firm and develop your career.

Salary and conditions

Salary is negotiable taking account of experience. This role carries very promising long-term career development prospects.

We actively celebrate our colleagues’ differences in ethnicity, faith, gender, sexual orientation and social background.  We want the best people.
