Fife Council’s Litigation Team is seeking to appoint two enthusiastic and motivated solicitors to provide legal support to Fife Council and cover for colleagues on temporary absences in litigation matters, including child protection, permanence, adults with incapacity, adult support and protection, mental health, education, housing, debt recovery, HMO and Short Term Let Licensing, and employment.

You will be part of the Litigation Team who undertake a range of litigation services to client services across the council, responsible for managing your own case load and representing the council in a variety of matters. This is an excellent opportunity to combine a fulfilling and challenging role within a supportive team environment whilst gaining experience of the workings of local government and its legal affairs. There will be opportunities and support to apply any existing knowledge or experience, and/or develop new skills, in these areas.

As a progressive employer, we offer a “blended working” arrangement with home working opportunities and occasional office-working as required.
While the significant part of the role can and will be carried out remotely, candidates should be able to travel to and attend office locations, meetings, court and Tribunal appearances as required.

The Person

Educated to SCQF level 11, which includes a Masters Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, SVQ level 5 or equivalent e.g. Degree in Law and Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice or equivalent.

You should hold a Law Degree (LLB) and a Diploma in Legal Practice or an equivalent. You also should be a qualified solicitor holding, or eligible to hold, an unrestricted Practicing Certificate issued by the Law Society of Scotland and be able to work under limited supervision with well-developed communication and IT skills.
This post will suit candidate with experience in general Licensing and/or litigation.

Experience in all the above areas is not essential, but a willingness to develop in those areas would be highly desirable.

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

We are currently shaping our future workstyles however, in light of current advice, we are introducing blended home/office working that will include office access days each week with homeworking for the remainder of your working time.
