Solicitors/Paralegals

John Jackson & Dick is a long established, forward thinking practice based in Hamilton and Strathaven. Due to recent office expansion and another firm acquisition, we have interesting and exciting opportunities for Solicitors or paralegals to join our dynamic team. You may already work within a high street firm or perhaps you work in a large city firm and are seeking a better work/life balance.

The roles would suit applicants with a background or looking to specialise in private client or commercial property. Training and support is available. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and the desire and ambition to drive the business forward and want career progression. The ability to manage your own caseload and prioritise work is essential.

Depending on experience, key responsibilities for each role include:

Private client

  • Advising on all aspects of Wills, drafting, estate planning including inheritance tax and long term care planning;
  • Advising on the administration of testate and intestate estates; including all associated advice and preparation of Applications for Confirmation and Inheritance Tax returns;
  • Preferred but not essential, advising on Trusts including discretionary and bereavement trusts for Wills, the preparation of trust documents and trust administration;
  • Advising on the Adults With Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and the preparation and advising on Powers of Attorney and Guardianship Orders;

Commercial property

  • Advising clients on all matters relating to purchases, sales, re-financing and transfers of commercial property;
  • Negotiating missives;
  • Attending to registration of title and voluntary registrations;
  • Negotiating commercial leases both for landlords and tenants;
  • Advising on all aspects of commercial and/or agricultural conveyancing;
  • Negotiating Share and Asset purchase and sale agreements;
  • Shareholder & Partnership Agreements;
  • Commercial fixed and floating securities; and
  • The roles on offer are flexible with genuine career prospects for the right candidates. Although full time is preferred, we may consider part time. Salary is commensurate with experience.
