Supervisor

Due to continued growth, DAC Beachcroft is looking to appoint a Supervisor in our team in Glasgow.  This is an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor or an experienced Paralegal to undertake a varied caseload of both Pursuer and Defender work in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session (ordinary and commercial court) and have the opportunity to manage a team of Paralegals and Trainee Solicitors.  

The role sits within our specialist property damage team in Glasgow, which comprises a Partner, six Solicitors, nine Paralegals and nine Trainee Solicitors. What you will do 

Direct Supervision of a team of handlers who will have responsibility for pre litigated and litigated cases carrying a value largely not exceeding £250k.

Alongside supervision duties you will run a reduced caseload of your own and/or provide support to senior lawyers within the team on complex matters.

Through effective supervision and support of lawyers, to be accountable & responsible for the following:

  • Technical supervision of claims
  • All interim and performance reviews, including probation reviews
  • Absence management
  • Cascading and communicating information
  • Motivating and engaging the team, as well as overseeing their well-being
  • Ensuring files are run pro-actively and effectively to conclusion by the relevant lawyer, with appropriate SLA and deadlines met
  • Ensuring that lawyers carry out work effectively to meet the needs of the clients and the commercial requirements of the firm
  • Effective allocation of work amongst the team to meet the skills and technical knowledge of the individual to ensure effective handling

In addition the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Act as a point of contact for clients in relation to Scottish claims, demonstrating a level of knowledge and skill commensurate with experience.
  • Support marketing and business development activity within the team (e.g. attending marketing events, client training, clinics and shadowing days).
  • Handle a caseload of pre-litigated & litigated injury claims and achieve measures.
  • Maintain an awareness of the firm’s strategies and plans.
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions and reading appropriate publications.
  • You will be required to handle confidential information in line with the firm’s data security protocols.

You will:

  • Be a qualified Solicitor or Paralegal who has demonstrable experience of handling a caseload
  • Have expertise in commercial litigation generally, with demonstrable experience in managing a varied caseload in the Scottish courts?
  • Be highly organised and a confident negotiator and communicator with an outstanding eye for detail
  • Have excellent relationship and client handling skills.  Able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues.
  • Be able to demonstrate a reasonable level of self-sufficiency, combined with an awareness of the boundaries of own competence/authority.
  • Be proactive with a tenacious approach to identifying issues and solving problems
  • Have an ability to adopt a commercial perspective
  • Demonstrate alignment with the Firm’s Cultural Principles (Clear, Creative, Determined and Supportive).
